Airbnb and Tripadvisor Group have agreed to make Tripadvisor's catalog of more than 425,000 tours, activities and attractions bookable directly inside Airbnb's app. The companies say the integration is expected to go live later this year, though neither has set a firm date or disclosed commission terms.

What changes for guests

A guest who books a stay on Airbnb will be able to search and book a Tripadvisor-sourced tour, cooking class or museum ticket without leaving the app or starting a separate checkout on Tripadvisor's own site. That catalog is largely built on Viator, the activities marketplace Tripadvisor Group owns, which has spent years building direct relationships with tour operators and attractions worldwide.

Why hosts and managers should pay attention

Airbnb's own Experiences product has been thin since the company shut down its peer-hosted version in 2020 and relaunched a smaller, curated one in 2022. Importing Tripadvisor's inventory solves that supply gap in one move and gives the Experiences tab enough depth to function as a real trip-planning tool rather than a side feature. For hosts who currently earn quiet referral income by pointing guests toward a favorite local guide or tour operator, that is worth watching: once a credible booking option sits inside the same app the guest already used to reserve the stay, informal recommendations get harder to compete with.

The strategy behind the deal

Airbnb has spent the past two years trying to rebuild itself into a platform covering the whole trip, not just the room, adding Experiences and Services as standalone tabs alongside Homes. Tripadvisor Group gets something in return: distribution on a platform with far more stay-booking traffic than its own site, at a time when Tripadvisor's core business has leaned more heavily on advertising revenue than direct bookings. What operators still don't know is how experience operators get paid, whether pricing on Airbnb will match what Viator already charges, and whether the launch slips past the timeline both companies have given.
