Editorial Standards for our vacation rental news
The Nightly Rate publishes daily vacation rental news for hosts, property managers and the wider short-term rental industry. These are the standards the desk holds itself to, and what you can expect from every story we run.
Independence
The Nightly Rate makes its editorial decisions independently. No outside party reviews or approves individual stories, and no advertiser or platform can buy, alter or block a story. Sponsored and editorial content are never mixed, and anything commercial is clearly labelled. We cover every platform, property-management system and channel manager on the merits, with no commercial relationship shaping what we report.
Accuracy over speed
We aim to describe developments precisely and without exaggeration, and we would rather publish a story a few hours later than publish it wrong. Where a claim is contested or comes from a single interested party, we say so in the piece rather than presenting it as settled fact. Numbers are given with the period they cover and the body that produced them.
How we source and verify stories
Our stories are built from primary and reputable secondary sources: regulator agendas and published rules, court and public filings, official platform announcements, company earnings material, and established industry publications. We cross-check factual claims against the original source before publishing, and we summarise and re-report developments in our own words rather than copying another outlet’s text.
Technology-assisted, standards-governed
Our editorial process is technology-assisted: we use automated tooling to monitor sources and to assemble first drafts of the nightly file. Every story is then produced and reviewed against the standards on this page before it publishes. We do not present automated drafting as first-hand, on-the-ground reporting, and we do not claim interviews, site visits or testing that did not happen.
What we do not do
- We do not accept payment to publish, alter or remove coverage.
- We do not publish rumour, speculation dressed as fact, or unverified leaks.
- We do not invent sources, quotes, interviews, statistics, experts, testing or credentials.
- We do not copy or lightly reword other publications; we re-report in our own words.
- We do not publish multiple near-identical stories on one event; a developing story is updated in place.
Corrections policy
If we publish something that turns out to be wrong, we fix it in place and add a dated correction note at the foot of the article describing what changed. Material errors also trigger an editor’s note at the top of the piece. We do not silently rewrite published stories. To request a correction, use our contact form with the article link and what is wrong, and we will review it promptly.
